How can investment managers better address the data problems associated with ESG?
The key to ESG is actually making it a part of portfolio construction. There’s a lot of talk regarding ESG standards, regulatory reporting requirements, etc., but too much of the discussion centers on what happens after the fact. According to Marc Mallett of Northern Trust, managers need to consider ESG from the start when building a portfolio and choosing a technology platform.
Watch “The key to ESG” for his top takeaways:
- Adding ESG to your screening process to increase the chances of your results aligning with your clients' expectations.
- Legacy systems can be hard-wired to certain data sources. There are no guidelines for ESG, so until there are, you need a flexible system that can consume data from multiple sources.
